Cigar Chivalry

Cigar smoking is an age old smoking. However, with changing times the protocols of cigar smoking have also changed. The protocol certainly requires the cigar smokers to be considerate of the non-smokers around. Smokers must understand that non-smokers do not like the smell of the cigar even if it is the best quality Cuban cigar. There is a raging anti-smoking campaign currently going on all over the world. Thus in such times it is important that cigar smokers enjoy their cigars without causing any trouble to the non-smokers around. Cigars smokers, many a times, do not understand the inconvenience caused by the smell of the cigar to the non smokers. The cigar smoke can leave an extremely strong residue in the house, on the walls, on the furniture and other portions of the house. This is not appreciated by the non smokers. Hence cigar smokers must be very careful that their smoking does not create any problem to the non-smokers. When cigars smokers and non smokers live together, there are some very important steps which the smokers must follow. They must make it a habit of smoking only in a properly ventilated area of the house. Many people prefer to smoke in solitude in a closed room in their office or their bedroom. However, it is not advisable to smoke in a closed room if there is not a single window. Smoking in closed room without any source of ventilation is harmful for the health of the smoker himself. The smoker has the risk of inhaling the toxic air from his own cigar. The best way is to smoke outside the home or the office is fresh open air. It is much more fun to put your feet up and enjoy a quiet cigar in a beautiful lawn in a comfortable recliner. Cigar smokers must never smoke with non-smokers like children or elderly around. The cigar contains carcinogenic factors which can be especially harmful to the children and elderly people. A chivalrous cigar smoker would never light a cigar outside his home unless it is legally permitted.  Smoking a cigar in places where smoking is clearly prohibited is considered extremely uncivilized. A polite cigar smoker always smokes in the company of other smokers. Cigar chivalry lies in the fact wherein a cigar smoker asks the permission of the non-smokers around before lighting up a cigar. While smoking in the company of non-smokers, smokers must be careful of some basic courtesies. The first consideration is that the smoke must not waft in the direction of the non-smokers. For this, the smokers must make it a point to sit near an open window. The most disrespectful point is if the smoker is smoking while someone around is eating. Such passive smoking can spoil anyone’s meal. Last but definitely not the least is the aspect of cigar ash. A well-mannered cigar smoker would always be careful of the ashes of his cigars. Outside the home, cigar smokers must concentrate greatly on the way they dispose off their cigar ashes in a proper ashtray. Ashes can be easily blown. Hence, it is vital that smokers do not litter ashes or blow them close to anyone else around. Cigar smoking is considered a very royal and up market habit. Thus it must be pursued in an equally chivalrous and gentlemanly manner.
